Fire Emergency Action Plan

Services

A fire emergency action plan helps ensure that, in the event of a fire, people know how to act, how to evacuate and how to cooperate with the rescue team.

The plan is required for buildings for which a fire safety self-inspection report must be submitted. Tondi Tulekaitse helps prepare fire emergency action plans that take into account the specific characteristics of the company, institution or building.

Why is a fire emergency action plan needed?

In the event of a fire, it is important that actions are fast, clear and coordinated. A well-prepared plan helps to:

  • ensure people’s safety;

  • reduce the risk of property damage;

  • provide employees with clear instructions for acting in the event of a fire;

  • describe the evacuation procedure;

  • support cooperation with the rescue team;

  • take into account the specific characteristics of the building and organisation.

What does the plan include?

A fire emergency action plan generally consists of two parts:

  • an action plan, which describes the instructions for acting and evacuating in the event of a fire;

  • evacuation diagrams, which show evacuation routes, exits and important fire safety installations.

When preparing the plan and its related parts, the activities of the company or institution, the use of the building, the movement of people and other circumstances that may affect actions in the event of a fire are taken into account.

What does the action plan include?

The action plan gives employees an overview of the fire safety specifics of the company or institution and describes how to act in the event of a fire. Among other things, the action plan includes:

  • a description of the information affecting evacuation and fire response;

  • a description of the fire hazards of the company or institution;

  • instructions for reporting a fire;

  • instructions for carrying out evacuation;

  • instructions for acting in the event of a fire;

  • instructions for cooperation with the rescue team.

If several companies operate in the same building

If several companies or institutions operate in the same building, their fire emergency action plans must be aligned with one another. This helps ensure fast and coordinated action in the event of a fire.

When is the plan required?

A fire emergency action plan is required for buildings for which a fire safety self-inspection report must be submitted. More detailed requirements arise, among other things, from the document “Requirements for Fire Safety Self-Inspection and Fire Safety Reports, and Criteria for Mandatory Fire Safety Reports”.

Legal basis

According to Regulation No. 43 of the Minister of the Interior of 01.09.2010, “Requirements for Fire Emergency Action Plans and for the Organisation of Evacuation and Fire Drills”, the purpose of a fire emergency action plan is to ensure people’s safety and prevent property damage in the event of a fire.
