Oxygen Reduction Systems

Even more effective than detecting and extinguishing a fire is preventing a situation where a fire can start in the first place. An oxygen reduction system helps lower the oxygen level in a room to a point where fire ignition is prevented, while people can still be present in the protected area.

Tondi Tulekaitse offers oxygen reduction systems by FirePASS Europe GmbH. These solutions are suitable for data centres, museums, archive rooms, warehouses and many other buildings and spaces that require fire protection.

How does an oxygen reduction system work?

An oxygen reduction system lowers the oxygen concentration in the protected area below the level required for fire ignition. In the solution offered by Tondi Tulekaitse, air with an oxygen content of 10% is supplied into the protected area, reducing the oxygen level in the room to approximately 15% instead of the usual 21%.

This oxygen level helps prevent fire ignition, while still being designed to allow people to be present in the protected area.

Where is an oxygen reduction system suitable?

An oxygen reduction system is suitable for rooms and buildings where a fire could cause significant damage or interrupt an important process. Typical applications include:

  • data centres;

  • museums;

  • archive rooms;

  • warehouses;

  • vaults;

  • technical rooms;

  • other protected areas of high value or critical importance.

Why choose an oxygen reduction system?

An oxygen reduction system does not focus only on fire detection or fire suppression, but on preventing a fire from starting in the first place.

The system helps to:

  • reduce the possibility of fire ignition;

  • protect valuable equipment, documents, goods or museum objects;

  • reduce the risk of damage caused by fire or firefighting;

  • maintain a stable environment with a lower oxygen level in the protected area;

  • protect very large areas.

With an oxygen reduction system, it is possible to protect an area of up to 100,000 m³.

Oxygen level monitoring

The oxygen level in the room is monitored with dedicated sensors. These help maintain a stable low-oxygen environment in the protected area, which is important for the system to fulfil its purpose and keep the oxygen level within the intended range.
